"Prometheus" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is a poem written between 1772 and 1774. The mythic titan Prometheus boldly addresses God in fierce accusation and defiance, rejecting divine authority and asserting his own creative power. As a cornerstone of the German Sturm und Drang movement, the poem presents the rebellious spirit who, spurned by God, stands alone in angry resistance—exploring humanity's capacity for both defiance and independence through classical mythology and Biblical
echoes. (This is an automatically generated summary.)
