"A szellemi erők gyüjtése és pazarlása" by Elek Szitnyai is a scientific publication written in the early 20th century. This work delves into the principles of mental energy, exploring how we gather and waste intellectual resources, primarily through the lens of psychology and neurology. The author emphasizes the importance of understanding our mental capabilities and how various factors affect our intellectual development and effectiveness. The beginning of the book outlines the concept
of mental energy and its significance in our lives. Szitnyai introduces various aspects of mental processes, discussing how thoughts and emotions are localized in the brain and the importance of efficient learning. He critiques the excesses in contemporary education systems that promote memorization of unnecessary information, which contributes to the waste of mental resources, outlining a desire for a more effective approach to education that aligns with students' natural abilities and interests.
