"Isabeau de Bavière, reine de France. La jeunesse, 1370-1405" by Marcel Thibault is a historical account written in the early 20th century. The book delves into the life of Isabeau de Bavière, focusing on her early years, her upbringing in Bavaria, and the political machinations that led to her eventual marriage to Charles VI of France. It aims to provide a comprehensive and accurate portrayal of a figure often depicted negatively in
history. The beginning of this work establishes the context for Isabeau's life by outlining the political landscape of the 14th century and her noble lineage. Her origins in the powerful Wittelsbach family of Bavaria are highlighted, emphasizing the significant role her family's history played in shaping her destiny. Thibault critiques earlier historical narratives that have painted Isabeau in a one-dimensional light, while introducing her life story through meticulous research and a commitment to authenticity in recounting her childhood, familial relationships, and eventual nuptials, setting the stage for deeper explorations of her character and influence thereafter.
