"A Biblia Sagrada, Contendo o Velho e o Novo Testamento" by João Ferreira d'Almeida is a religious text written in the early 20th century. This edition serves as a Portuguese translation of the Bible, meticulously compiled to present both the Old and New Testaments. The likely focus of this work is to provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of biblical scripture, alongside references and annotations for context. The opening of this translation
presents the Genesis account of creation, detailing God's creation of the heavens and the earth, the formation of light and darkness, as well as the creation of mankind in His image. It narrates the establishment of the Garden of Eden, the introduction of Adam and Eve, and the important moral dilemmas they face, such as the temptation by the serpent and the subsequent fall from grace. This beginning sets the stage for exploring themes of creation, sin, and divine covenant, foundational elements that are pivotal to the larger biblical narrative.
