"Rostem und Suhrab: Eine Heldengeschichte in zwölf Büchern" by Friedrich Rückert is an epic poem written in the mid-19th century. This story draws from Persian mythology, revolving around the legendary hero Rostem and his son Suhrab, whose fate is intertwined in a tragic tale of courage and misunderstanding. The opening of the work introduces Rostem as a formidable hero who, during a peaceful time in Iran, sets out on a hunting expedition
after lamenting the absence of battle. While Rostem is preoccupied with his adventures, his prized horse is captured by a band of Turks, prompting a series of events that lead him on a quest to retrieve it. Meanwhile, Suhrab, the son of Rostem, who is unaware of his father's identity, is growing up with aspirations of finding and confronting his father. As the narrative unfolds, themes of heroism, identity, and the tragic consequences of fate begin to emerge, setting the stage for the epic conflict that will inevitably lead Rostem and Suhrab into a fateful confrontation.
