"竇娥寃" by Hanqing Guan is a Chinese zaju play written during the Yuan dynasty (c. 1241–1320). The story follows Dou E, a young widow who is wrongly convicted of murder by a corrupt official after rejecting a suitor's advances. Before her execution, she prophesies three supernatural events to prove her innocence: blood will not touch the ground, snow will fall in midsummer, and drought will strike for three years. When all three
occur, her ghost seeks justice through her father, now a government official. (This is an automatically generated summary.)
