"Chronica de el-rei D. Affonso Henriques" by Duarte Galvão is a chronicle written around 1520. This illuminated manuscript presents a mythologized compilation of legends about Portugal's first king, Afonso I the Great. Written in old Portuguese, the work draws upon centuries of oral tradition and earlier texts, weaving tales of heroic battles against Moors and Christians alongside miraculous events. The chronicle became a crucial historiographic source for the Iberian Peninsula and inspired
later Portuguese literary masterpieces, including Camões's epic "The Lusiads." (This is an automatically generated summary.)
