"A Compilation of the Messages and Papers of the Presidents. Section 2 (of 2)" compiled by James D. Richardson is a historical document collection copyrighted in 1897. This monumental eleven-volume series preserves the official words of America's presidents from 1787 to 1902, gathering proclamations, special messages, and inaugural addresses. The work became entangled in political controversy when Richardson claimed private copyright over public documents, sparking the "Richardson Affair" that ultimately changed federal
copyright law. These volumes offer direct access to presidential communications spanning over a century of American history. (This is an automatically generated summary.)
