GAUGE: 3 sts = 1 inch

Directions are given for Small size. Changes for Medium and Large sizes are given in parentheses.

MEASUREMENTS: Width across front or back at underarm: 16″, 17″, 18″.

BACK: Ch 52 (56, 60), s c in 2nd st from hook, * 1 d c in next st of ch, s c in next st, repeat from * across ch, ch 1, turn. 2nd ROW: D c in back loop of 1st s c, * s c in front loop of next d c, d c in back loop of next s c, repeat from * across row, ch 1, turn. 3rd ROW: S c in front loop of 1st d c, * d c in back loop of next s c, s c in front loop of next d c, repeat from * across row, ch 1, turn. POMPONS: Open a skein of yarn and cut one end, tie at 1 inch intervals. Cut between each tie and trim ends. Tie 1 pompon in every other row along lower edge.

BACK: On No. 8 needles cast on 51 (55, 59) sts and work in seed st for 2 inches (seed st: 1st ROW: K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across row. Repeat 1st row throughout). Change to No. 10 needles and work even for 12 inches. SHAPE ARMHOLES: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side once. Work even for 7 (7½, 8) inches. SHAPE SHOULDERS: Bind off 6 (7, 8) sts at beg of next 4 rows, bind off remaining sts for back of neck.

RIGHT FRONT: On No. 8 needles cast on 29 (31, 33) sts. Work 2 inches in seed st. Change to No. 10 needles and work even for 12 inches. SHAPE ARMHOLE: Bind off 5 sts at beg of row, then dec 1 st at armhole side once. Continue even at armhole edge and dec 1 st at front edge every 3rd row 12 times. LEFT FRONT: Work to correspond to right front reversing shaping.

FINISHING: Block sections. Sew seams. Work 1 round of s c around each armhole. Work 2 rounds of s c all around edge working 5 buttonholes on right front in 1st row. (Buttonhole: ch 3, skip 2 sts, s c in next st; in following round work 1 s c in each st of ch at buttonholes.)

BUTTONS: Work s c over bone ring, cut yarn, draw sts tog. Sew in place. With Red ch 7 or 8, sl st in back loop of each ch, cut yarn. Form letters as illustrated and sew in place to buttons. Finish last button with a french knot.

MEASUREMENTS: Width across front or back at underarm: 21″, 22½″, 23½″.

BACK: With Spice, cast on 42 (45, 48) sts. (Work in stripes of 6 rows Spice and 4 rows White.)

Starting with a P row work in stockinette st (P 1 row, K 1 row) inc 2 sts at the beg and end of every K row 5 times, 62 (65, 68) sts. Work even until there are 9 complete White stripes. Work 1 row Spice. SHAPE ARMHOLES: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at beg of next 3 rows (this completes Spice stripe), cut Spice. NEXT ROW: Attach White and use for entire yoke.
