Cataloging Administration Interface Ideas
- Add a way to add a given subject to a book in one click, whether it existed in the database before or not.
- Make use of the fact that, given a LoCCN, you can link directly to a book using the following URL form: http://catalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local&Search_Code=STNO&CNT=25&Search_Arg=THE_LoCCN_YOU_HAVE
- Um, there seems to be some code already written for slurping LoC stuff: gutcat message -- I wonder what happened to it? -- JesseW 14:05, 6 February 2008 (EST)
Author Browsing Pages Improvements
- Make sorting order take accented characters into account.
- However, this may not be possible due to our hosting arrangements at ibibilio. (gutcat message)
- Make authors sort like this:
- Green, Alice
- Green, Robert
- Greenacre, Janet
- Greenjeans, Mr.
- instead of like this:
- Greenacre, Janet
- Green, Alice
- Greenjeans, Mr.
- Green, Robert
(that is, take spaces into account in the sort order)
Search Improvements
- Results of author searches should include co-author credits. A search for the author William Wadsworth does not produce the listing for Lyrical Ballads. Lyrical Ballads was co-authored by Coleridge and Wadsworth. Coleridge is first alphabetically and perhaps that is why a search for Wadsworth does not product the book Lyrical Ballads. (Posted 4/2008)
- Author search already searches all authors. The author you want is "Wordsworth". Marcello 02:02, 5 April 2008 (EDT)
- Make the 440 series field searchable. We can create 440 fields, but I don't think there's a way to search on the data there.
