Goals for 2009

To publish 240 more eBooks

This year, we want to duplicate the number of produced eBooks. In 2008, we produced 120 and in 2009 we want to produce 240. This means:

Producing 5 Portuguese eBooks every week.

To increase the number of Brazilian and African eBooks

In 2009 we want to increase Project Gutenberg’s popularity in Brazil and in the Portuguese-Speaking African Countries, turning the Portuguese catalog richer and more universal.

Namely, we want to track down works and authors in the public domain in the Portuguese-speaking Africa and we also want to develop volunteers’ recruitment strategies in Brazil.

(See our Histórico.)

Mid-term goals

To become the 3rd European language in number of eBooks by 2017

Currently we remain in the

 7th position.

The language currently occupying the 3rd position is:

 German

The language currently right above Portuguese is:

 Chinese

In order to achieve this goal, in January 1, 2009

 we needed to produce 270 eBooks.

To duplicate the number of produced eBooks every year

Since all PG's guidelines are in Portuguese, the same way it happens with English, we can duplicate the number of produced eBooks every year.

If we produce 20 eBooks in 2007, and 100 in 2008, and 200 in 2009, and 400 in 2010, then:

 In Jan. 1, 2008 we will have 120 eBooks written in Portuguese;
 In Jan. 1, 2009 we will have 220;
 em Jan. 1, 2010 we will have 420;
 em Jan. 1, 2011 we will have 820;
 em Jan. 1, 2012 we will have 1620;
 em Jan. 1, 2013 we will have 3220;
 em Jan. 1, 2014 we will have 6420;
 em Jan. 1, 2015 we will have 12820;
 em Jan. 1, 2016 we will have 25620;
 em Jan. 1, 2017 we will have 51220.

To announce Project Gutenberg in the press

Without being known Project Gutenberg cannot recruit any volunteers. We must announce the Portuguese version of PG’s website in the newspapers, radio stations, tv stations, specialized websites, blogs, etc. Any volunteer can write a note to their local newspaper.
