"Life plus X" references countries where the copyright law defines "in the public domain" as X years after the death of the author. Australia for example has two laws "Life plus 50" and "Life plus 70". PG of Australia can therefore offer books which are still under copyright in the US. If you live in a country with the same or better copyright laws you can legally download such books.
