The Hebrew Bible

What follows is a listing of the books of the Hebrew Bible, by Jewish canon order, as codified by the Sanhedrin at the Council of Yavne in the year 90 c.e./a.d. This canon order differs significantly from the traditional order present in the Protestant and Catholic Bibles.

It should be noted that the book-by-book links that follow are to Christian translations, such as the King James Bible stock_book_yellow-16.png. Only two English translations of the Hebrew Bible are in the public domain: the The Leeser Bible of 1853, and the Jewish Publication Society of America Bible of 1917, commonly called the "Old JPS". Neither text is yet available in Project Gutenberg. However, a copy of the JPS-1917 is available on Google-Print, The Internet Archive, and Wikisource and could find its way onto Project Gutenberg in the future. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Leeser Bible; no page images appear to be available on the Internet at this time.

Mishnah

Various

Legends of the Jews, by Rabbi Louis Ginzberg, is an original synthesis of a vast amount of aggadah from the Mishnah, the two Talmuds and Midrash ... he paraphrased them and rewrote them into one continuous narrative that covered five volumes, followed by two volumes of footnotes that give specific sources.
